Lawmakers are supposed to be truthful, honest, transparent and above all, abiding by the guiding principles of the law. However, the latest verdict given by the judge handling the Portland Cement Zambia case questions the very fundamental motive of the government. Zambia is a developing nation and has faced numerous ups and downs in the past few decades. One of the major challenge which the country is facing as of now is its legal system and the various limitations associated with it. These limitations have impacted not only the common citizens, but also successful and noted businessmen like Dr. Rajan Mahtani.
Unlike most of the businessmen and groups across Zambia, Dr. Mahtani has made a name for himself with his transparent and ethical business practices. As such, he is also paying the price for it. The case of Portland Cement Zambia was registered by Dr. Mahtani almost 10 years back when he claimed that he was the legal owner of the factory. To support his claim, Dr. Mahtani has submitted numerous evidences and documents over the course of 10 long years. Even after that, the judges were not able to provide any relief for Dr. Mahtani. The latest judge handling the case made some progress when it was announced that the case hearing was closed and both parties were asked to submit their evidences.
However, all these good work were seem to be an illusion as the final verdict was given against Dr. Mahtani’s claims even though majority of the evidences support him. As of now, an appeal has been made at the higher court of Zambia against this high court judgment.
